This book relates to artists because it shows the importance of pride and creativity in contrast to the evils of manipulation, mediocrity, and ignorance.

It's important to be original because if you live your life following the mainstream, you become ignorant and mediocre. To truly succeed, you have to find who you really are and stick with it. Financial success is nothing if you don't really believe in what you're doing. If you work for the masses, you're living for them instead of living for yourself. If you let public opinion affect you, you'll never be able to do what you really want to do.

"Howard, I'm a parasite. I've been a parasite all my life.... I have fed on you and all the men like you who lived before we were born... if they hadn't existed I wouldn't have known how to put stone to stone... I have taken that which was not mine and given nothing in return." -Peter Keating. By being unoriginal and untalented, he destroys himself after a few years of seemingly perfect success.

The most important thing I have learned from reading this book is that it's more important to preserve your own creativity and use it to inspire others, as well as yourself, instead of working for nothing but money and mainstream approval.
